Nina Métayer opens her first tea room on the island of Ré
In June 2026, Nina Métayer will open a new location on the Ile de Ré. It will be a year-round tea room, combining pastries, seasonal snacks and local roots.
The island of Ré is about to buzz with a new gourmet rendezvous. By the end of June 2026, Nina Métayer (Pâtissière de l'Année 2017) will open her very first tearoom. It will be a bright space with around twenty seats, where you can taste on the spot, take your time and find creations both savory and sweet, rooted in the region.
A tearoom open all year round
Conceived as a year-round living space, the project is designed to meet a strong demand for a local shop, even in winter. "I really wanted a place that would be part of the everyday life of the island's inhabitants, where you could feel at home," sums up the pastry chef, who is very enthusiastic about this new project.
The space will offer a complete experience, with table service and hot or cold drinks, in a deliberately soft, uncluttered atmosphere. "The tea room will adopt white and green hues, it will be very bright, very open", adds Nina Métayer.
Sweet and savoury
The gourmet offer will remain true to the chef's DNA, with a range of emblematic viennoiseries and pastries already present in her other La Rochelle boutiques, but also seasonal creations exclusive to this new tearoom. "We work as much as possible with producers from the Ile de Ré", says the pastry chef.

But the project doesn't stop at sweet! A savory offering will complete the menu with "La Rochelle signatures like chicken coleslaw, but also other creations thought up by [my] sister. She's come up with very fresh things like pea hummus, well-seasoned roasted vegetables, salads or sandwiches based on quality raw produce", she assures us. Small platters to share will also be offered, with selected charcuterie and mature cheeses.
With seating for around twenty, the tearoom is intended to be on a human scale, able to adapt to the island's seasonal rhythms. The showcase will be open every day this summer, before adjusting its opening hours in winter according to business activity.
