After more than twenty years as head of culinary creation at Maison Lenôtre, Guy Krenzer announced his retirement in an emotional post on Instagram.

A new chapter is beginning in the world of French haute cuisine. Guy Krenzer, an iconic figure at Maison Lenôtre and a two-time Meilleur Ouvrier de France (as a chef and charcutier), has announced his retirement. After more than four decades in the profession, including twenty-two years as creative director and executive chef at the company founded by Gaston Lenôtre, he is stepping down with a sense of a job well done.

A Humble Announcement

To share this news, Guy Krenzer chose to address his community directly on Instagram. In a lengthy post, he says he is leaving “at peace, driven by the deep conviction that he has fulfilled his mission with dedication, sincerity, and passion. In the post, the chef thanks Gaston Lenôtre, who placed his trust in him in 2004, as well as the teams, his loved ones, and the artisans, producers, and partners he has met over the years. He also spoke of passing on knowledge—a value that has guided his entire career—assuring everyone that he is leaving his position with confidence in those who will take over.

A Flawless Career

Born in Strasbourg in 1964, Guy Krenzer discovered his calling at a very early age. Trained as a delicatessen butcher and caterer, he joined the Compagnons du Tour de France des Devoirs Unis and distinguished himself by winning the title of Best Apprentice. His talent led him to work alongside leading figures in the culinary world, notably Jacques Maximin at the Negresco, before moving on to the Ritz in London, Fouquet’s, and then Lapérouse. He earned two “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” titles: first in charcuterie and catering at age 24, then in cooking a few years later.

In 2004, Gaston Lenôtre entrusted him with the creative direction and kitchen operations of the eponymous house. For more than two decades, Guy Krenzer led the largest culinary team in France and helped promote Lenôtre’s excellence both in France and internationally. He also established himself as a mentor, committed to passing on the techniques, values, and high standards that shaped his career. True to the image he has always cultivated, he is stepping down with humility, focusing more on those who will continue the journey than on the path he has already traveled.
