Gault&Millau's review 2025

Located at the corner of Rue de l'Université and Rue du Pré-aux-Clercs, this new 5-star hotel is part of the Chevalier family hotel group, which has chosen to preserve the soul of the place (a haven for many writers, from James Joyce to T.S. Eliot) by retaining its three historic addresses. No. 1 is home to Les Parisiens, a Parisian bistro designed by Thibault Sombardier; No. 3 is the James Joyce, a literary bar with a cosy, intimate decor; No. 5 is home to the beautiful spa and the hotel itself, which is revealed through the lobby with its 5-m-high ceiling decorated with alabaster lighting. The tone is set, luxurious and uncluttered. It unfolds through a lounge topped by an Art Deco glass roof, while the lounge-library is adorned with designer armchairs and travertine coffee tables. The 47 rooms and suites also look like they've stepped out of an ideal Haussmann apartment, with their moldings and thickly carpeted parquet floors, tempered by modern bathrooms and high-tech equipment. A special mention goes to the "James Joyce" suite, where the writer put the finishing touches to "Ulysses", his great work: 70 m2 with exposed beams and a breathtaking view over the forest of Paris rooftops.
