Gault&Millau's review 2025

Burgundy is home to a number of sumptuous châteaux, but this one easily takes the cake, with its keep built in 1120, 15th-century main residence, moat and spectacular walls. What's more, it has succeeded in preserving this medieval heritage while offering everything you need for a successful stay. The 16 rooms and suites recreate the ambiance of the château, with four-poster beds, toile de Jouy, antique parquet floors and wooden ceilings (and even fleurs de lys in the room once reserved for the King of France), while boasting beautiful contemporary bathrooms... Old stonework, period fireplaces and French ceilings still adorn the dining room, but it's now possible to sample the cuisine of Mauritian chef Franco Bowanee, who celebrates the fruits and vegetables of the organic kitchen garden. The 8,000 m2 garden is well worth a visit, as is the immense park with its peacocks and free-roaming animals, which can be observed from the hammocks and deckchairs set up in the glades, perfect for lounging.
