Gault&Millau's review 2025

The only hotel built inside the Château de Versailles, this address offers an absolutely unique experience, that of living as if in the time of the Sun King for one night... The Airelles hotel group had to wait six years for this (and commit several million euros to renovations), but we think it was well worth it! In the heart of the world's most beautiful château, in the apartments of the king's great comptroller of finances, the place succeeds in restoring, intact, the ambiance of the 18th century, while avoiding kitsch or ostentation. In this building designed by architect Jules Hardouin-Mansart (a small miracle of balance and proportion), the group has called on the best of French craftsmanship for the decoration, notably the 3,500 m of Pierre Frey fabrics, re-edited from the company's archives or imagined from period engravings. A sumptuous salon extends the lobby with its gold-leafed woodwork, velvet banquettes and master paintings; the 11 bedrooms and 2 suites spread around the garden terrace are adorned with tassel chandeliers and floral fabrics. Everything here infuses the spirit of the Grand Siècle, refined and harmonious. Designed by Alain Ducasse, the gastronomic restaurant further enriches the experience, with a veritable 5-course feast inspired by Louis XIV's favorite recipes and served in precious Limoges porcelain.
