Some winemakers in the Aube region are fortunate enough to own vineyards planted with so-called rare or forgotten grape varieties such as Arban, Petit Meslier, and Pinot Blanc, to name just a few. The Gruet family, based in Buxeuil, is among these winemakers, and Pierre-Charles, who carries on the family legacy, makes the most of these grape varieties, which add uniqueness and complexity when blended with the classic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. He hasn’t forgotten that these grape varieties can also “stand on their own,” as demonstrated by these 100% Pinot Blanc and 100% Arbane cuvées. Ratafia and marc de champagne also deserve special attention.
