During a blind tasting in the 1970s, Joseph Ruscon discovered the Valois family's champagnes. A long friendship ensued. To keep the champagnes alive, Joseph's son Michel and grandson Kristofer decided to help François Vallois with the estate's succession. To this end, they created a new brand in 2012, Hatt and Söner champagnes: Hatt, a Swedish word meaning "hat", is a nod to the Ruscon family's hat-making past; söner means "son" and thus highlights the three generations of the two families involved in the adventure. Céline Vallois, François' daughter, took up the position of operations manager in 2022. The house produces mainly Blanc de Blancs from Grand Cru and Premier Cru Chardonnay villages.
