Cave d’irouléguy
A major player in local production, Irouleguy's only cooperative winery has at one time or another collected the grapes of many winegrowers who are now independent. Founded in 1952, before its recognition as an AOC (which dates back to 1970), it now accounts for 60% of volumes and more than 40 winegrowers in the appellation. Despite these significant local figures, the winery remains one of the smallest cooperatives in France. Cooperative values are particularly strong here, enabling the younger generation to join forces with the older generation who "saved" the vineyard in earlier years. You can visit and discover the winery with themed tours organized from April to September.
Gault&Millau's review
2023
89/100
Intensely fruity, honeyed nose. It's delicious, fleshy and pleasantly floral. The palate is more subdued. Of course, the fruity notes are still present, but they're muted and jostled by an acidic framework that titillates the taste buds.
