Perched on the hills above Cassel, not far from the mill and the equestrian statue of Marshal Foch, this little tavern stands out first and foremost for its decor, which is so rich and—in its own way—monumental. Beneath a ceiling covered with wicker baskets and pots, adorned with greenery, lies a small rustic room that feels like a journey back in time, surrounded by photos, advertisements, and artifacts salvaged from the past. The cuisine is, of course, a celebration of Flanders, featuring all the traditional recipes the region has to offer: beer rillettes, flamiche, Cassel-style heart, Flemish beef stew, potjevleesch, Maroilles cheese gratin, beer tripe, beer and brown sugar terrine, chicory crème brûlée…
