In a quiet street in the Saint-Aubin district, a neo-bistro with a welcoming bric-a-brac decor, freshly opened by a team of young people with a rebellious spirit who have wandered between France and Australia. In particular, Benoît, the smiling, bearded and tattooed chef, is clearly a fan of Star Wars, and you'll understand why... Lunch is market fare at €22, and the evening menu is €35, with an Asian-influenced bistro feel and tempting, if uneven, offerings. We enjoyed the grilled pork ravioli, the trout gravlax, the three-cooked mackerel fillet, and the poached pear with chocolate dome. We were slightly disappointed by the creamy risotto and the fruit millefeuille, but that didn't stop us from having a great time at this lively Toulouse venue. The little plus: at Machin-Chouette, music has its rightful place, and you can even choose a vintage vinyl from one of the many bins to play on the turntable. Regrets on the other hand: the service is too slow and the wine list too meagre. You can tell that we prefer craft beers and (excellent) house cocktails and mocktails.
