Gault&Millau's review 2026

At the foot of the beautifully renovated Vᵉ century church, Le Chenin boasts an ethical and sustainable approach through a sincere cuisine where the terroir is present in this Mecca of Loire Valley viticulture; the chef highlights matured fish as a starter, with horse mackerel in the middle of a well-balanced lemon and wild asparagus sauce; the exercise is less convincing with the main course, where the turbot, a little compacted by maturation, needs hollandaise sauce and braised fennel; we can nevertheless treat ourselves to sweetbreads sautéed in sage butter or local kid cooked at low temperature overnight; we finish with a superb dessert concocted by the pastry chef around candied rhubarb on crunchy shortbread and garden geranium sorbet; the rigorously selected wine list, rich in Savennières, logically gives pride of place to products that respect the living world, with more than 500 references; they can also be tasted at the "Le Clos" bar adjoining the restaurant, in a ginguette and tapas atmosphere; the night is then prolonged with great pleasure.
