In the harbor, right next to its gourmet restaurant, Jan's Bistrot seduces with its retro-chic elegance, its English green facade with its XIXᵉ century-style lanterns and its terrace lined with winter plaids. Inside, green panelling, stone vaults, floral arrangements and a cabinet of curiosities make up a décor thought through to the smallest detail... We're in the gourmet den of an aesthete. On the plate, the cuisine oscillates between bistro warmth and gastronomic precision. Flavors travel from South Africa to the Mediterranean, from Italy to bourgeois traditions, each dish seducing us with its precision, clarity and harmony: the very tender flank steak tataki, enriched with a lightly spiced XO sauce made from dried seafood; homemade gnocchi "à la romaine", pan-fried in hazelnut butter and enhanced with a fragrant romesco sauce (peppers, crushed almonds, tomatoes, onions and garlic); or the unmissable chicken pie or couscous royal (lamb, chicken, merguez..), in dishes to share, testify to the signature of a great chef behind each preparation. The cult Malva pudding dessert, spongy, warm and irresistible, is an obvious choice. The wine list is conceived with coherence and personality, a Franco-South African selection favoring small parcels and wines of character, with prices ranging from reasonable to prestigious. When Jan Hendrik decides to "bistro", he doesn't lower his standards, he simply changes the register. And on Sundays, the three-course "Daddy's Sunday Best" at €65, or €130 with champagne fountain, oysters and caviar, finally gives us a good excuse not to cook..
