Gault&Millau's review2025
Reopened in 2018 after a few years' closure, La Garenne has been brought back to life by Christian Matt and Sébastien Schmitt, the latter in charge of the kitchen. The hotel offers some very pretty rooms at reasonable prices, and the table, with its warm wooded decor and cheerful elbow-to-elbow crowd, offers a nice reading of today's cuisine, between regional specialties (käseknepfle, various tarts flambées) and current inspirations: beautiful organic egg, cream of mushroom and dried bacon, interesting gambas associated with pan-fried sauerkraut maki before a traditional baba au rhum. Cellar offering interesting choices in Alsace.
