Description 2025

Located on the islet across from the port of Saint-Martin-de-Ré since 1981, this chic and elegant brasserie—now run by three friends: Benjamin, Georges, and Jean-Audouin, invites guests to enjoy a warm and welcoming atmosphere with cocktails, fine wines, and wonderful dishes crafted by Adrien Formica, the talented chef. Having trained under the greatest chefs—including Anne-Sophie Pic at Yam’Tcha—he has mastered Asian influences to perfection: fish of the day with lightly spiced saffron butter, a lobster roll wrapped in croissant dough, marinated beef tataki, and to end on a sweet note, a soft-baked cookie with a melt-in-your-mouth center and vanilla ice cream—the house’s best-seller. Upon request, the chef will serve you a whole fish or a rib of beef to share. Every ingredient is carefully selected from local producers and fishermen. Two thoughtfully crafted daily specials at very reasonable prices and a menu that changes with the seasons. Whether on the terrace with a 180° view of the harbor or inside (on the ground floor or upstairs), the atmosphere is festive thanks to live musicians and singers or DJ sets during the season (see dates on social media—Facebook: Restaurant La Baleine Bleue and Instagram: @restaurant_la_baleine_bleue).
