Description

Just a stone's throw from the casino, this contemporary izakaya showcases the essentials of Japanese gastronomy, as precise as it is gourmet, with dishes that blend tradition and local adaptation. Clémence Lenorman, a passionate entrepreneur and lover of the Japanese art of living, was joined by Maicon Bastos, a Brazilian sushi master trained in São Paulo within the Japanese community. Together, they have created a menu that reflects this place of conviviality and exchange. On the menu: udon with homemade dashi broth, katsudon with Basque pork, karaage, gyozas, miso eggplant or seasonal fish at the counter. Here, everything is homemade using products from the Basque region and essential ingredients sourced directly from Japan (rice, vinegars, etc.). All year round, locals flock to this warm and inviting Japanese canteen, which has an authentic, soothing feel thanks to its raw wood and black earthenware decor. Inside or on the terrace overlooking the ocean and the sunset, the Comptoir Umami and its small grocery store selling traditional products are open from Tuesday to Saturday, lunchtime and evening (evening only in summer).
