Nestled beneath La Rochelle's landmark Grosse Horloge, this institution has been delighting sweet and savoury food lovers for years. Recently taken over by Geoffroy, the former owner's brother, the address has been completely renovated in a cosy, pop spirit, in the yellow and black colors of the La Rochelle rugby club, a deliberate local nod. On the menu, a generous range of snacks: homemade sandwiches with artisan bread, crispy paninis and gourmet quiches, ideal for an on-the-go lunch without compromising on quality. As for sweet treats, there's no shortage of them: soft Liège waffles, crêpes to die for - especially the salted butter caramel version, to be enjoyed without moderation - as well as homemade ice creams and granités (some fifteen flavors!) from Master Ice Cream Maker Jean-François Duport. What to drink? Squeezed oranges or ultra-fresh smoothies. As much a place of passage as a regulars' HQ, this address appeals to tourists and locals alike. A warm and inviting break not to be missed.
