Gault&Millau's review 2026

A new sensation in Clermont-Ferrand, this brasserie on boulevard Charles de Gaulle has something almost Chabrolian about it, in its combination of fine wines and Auvergne traditions, which only a provincial bourgeoisie can frequent with such mischief and assurance. This large, unassuming façade reveals a garden that's perfect for summer, and modern, well-appointed interiors, with a central island walled in with wooden slats that break up the space, guaranteeing relative privacy for all the tables (and there are plenty of them). The style remains that of a brasserie, with staff on the move and in costume, serving crispy pounti, foie gras mi-cuit aux morilles, fried egg, grilled coppa, pumpkin espuma and truffle chips, and plates of Marennes d'Oléron oysters. The Serrano truffade is generous, as is the capon supreme with morel cream and mashed potatoes. Desserts flirt with the two "toques", like this beautiful cocoa dacquoise and mint chocolate cream. The star of the show, of course, is the cellar, undoubtedly one of the finest in Clermont-Ferrand, with over five hundred references, not least the meursault from Coche-Dury by the glass for €25 and the châteauneuf-du-pape from Beaucastel for less than €20. Unbeatable lunch menu at €23. Open all day for coffee and aperitifs.
