Remarkable Restaurant Just a stone's throw from the Belgian border, on a site that overlooks the plain, Florent Ladeyn has passionately transformed the family inn into a place where everything is in harmony, from the table to the wood-panelled rooms where you can have a flambée. As soon as you cross the threshold and are greeted with a roasted squash broth, you know you're in for a pleasant evening with a generous, affordable six- or eight-course menu. Under Théo's guidance, the service is carried out with total precision by a team that feels close-knit and happy to showcase the chef's talent. The plates follow one another, some flirting with four toques, like this celery wallet, melting in the middle, grilled on the edge, with its fruit sauce and rhubarb paste, or a monkfish cooked to perfection, black garlic and mushrooms, bread miso. The North is present with the unavoidable maroilles and onion confit fries, so succulent, or the haddock croquettes. Great art, even if the red tuna is superfluous, but saved by the heliantis and fermented plum; the dessert of pumpkin bavarois with mushroom chocolate ice cream has us salivating in anticipation of a second dessert that doesn't come (we get demanding fast here). Last but not least, we marvel at the beer and wine pairings on offer, with bottles from the finest cellars, as well as the non-alcoholic combinations based on plants, fermented juices, apple-hop kefir or lemon geranium leaf kombucha.
