Gourmet Restaurant At the heart of the famous Gorges de l'Arly, on a road so costly to maintain, the pretty little village of Flumet is well worth a stopover before heading up to the high mountain pastures of the Val d'Arly, or those of the Beaufortin. It's here that a young couple, fresh from the Flocon de Sel in Megève, have put down their suitcases. The terrace is pleasant, overlooking the small stone bridge, while the interior will develop a patina over time. On the slate, you'll find dishes of the moment, such as filet mignon de cochon fermier, braised beef chuck or a pretty, melting free-range poultry with fine mushroom stuffing. There's also a small 3-course menu du jour at €23: leek vinaigrette, pike quenelle and ile flottante. As for the wine list, there's a strong trade presence, but we'd like to see a more personalized selection, with room for young Savoyard winemakers. One final detail: this is an inn, in the true sense of the word, where you are greeted with a smile, even without a reservation. An exquisite and rare luxury...
