Chef's Restaurant After a few half-hearted visits, we found this very worthy representative of Italian cuisine in Bordeaux to be in fine form - the authentic kind, of course, and not those of the pizzerias. With a very successful full lunch menu for €45, epicureans are bound to be familiar with this fine address in the heart of Bordeaux, and with the generosity and fine work of Giovanni Pireddu, a man madly in love with high-quality products and his country (Sardinia in particular). Elegant, well-dressed dishes with just the right flavors, such as Mediterranean mullet carpaccio, bottarga and lovage, roasted monkfish, saffron beurre blanc and cuttlefish, confit salsify, pilpil sauce or gnocchi with egg yolk emulsion and Périgord black truffle. A good pear and amaretto millefeuille (which could be a little stronger), a 700-strong wine cellar with the best of the Botte, evening menus of six to eight courses from €100; excellent welcome from Johanna, the chef's wife.
