Gourmet Restaurant The experience is almost touching. For it's hard to imagine, in this district with no shortage of arrogant young tables, that Portuguese tradition - in terms of welcome, atmosphere and food - has been so well preserved over the last fifty years. The menu on display, the furniture (you may find it rustic and rudimentary, but the chairs and decor are exactly those of traditional restaurants from Braga to Setubal...), the service itself, a little slow and disarmingly kind, are markers of the sincerity and pleasure you'll also find on the plate, with cod fritters, octopus salad, the usual variation on "bacalhau", the all-too-rare pork with alentejano (cockles) present here all the time, and the excellent pastel de nata. Only the cellar could perhaps be brought up to date, as today there are a host of new and excellent winemakers, notably in dao and douro.
