Gault&Millau's review2026
The most Castrais of British chefs, Simon Scott, has been seducing the taste buds of locals for over fifteen years, to the point where finding a table at the end of the week is complicated. Tonight, two menus are on offer, including a surprise multi-course meal. True to its flamboyant red frontage, the menu is generous, sometimes at the risk of losing a little balance, as in the case of certain dishes with very heavy compositions, such as the one combining salmon gravlax, prawn tartare, nori ice cream, red onion pickles and yuzu emulsion, or the dessert featuring mango, raspberry sorbet, passion fruit coulis and a few fresh fruits. Nevertheless, the perfectly cooked duck breast with Jerusalem artichoke mousseline, potatoes and beet is a fine example of technical skill. The wine list is well constructed, with local references at affordable prices and a few more ambitious flasks for connoisseurs. Service could do with a little more precision.
