To climb Fourvière Hill via the funicular, there are two routes to choose from: one passes by the magnificent basilica, and the other goes through the more intimate Saint-Just neighborhood, which also offers a beautiful view of Lyon and is home to the Fourvière Hotel and its restaurant, Les Téléphones. In fact, there are phones next to every table with a direct line to the kitchen for placing orders, though the staff can also take care of this for you in this dining room—housed in the former cloister—which offers a stunning view. The chef, for his part, offers a quintessentially Lyon-style menu, featuring frog cromesquis and pike quenelles with an impeccable Nantua sauce. We’ll spend less time on the desserts, which are a notch below, while still enjoying this very pleasant moment.
