Remarkable Restaurant Guillaume Tirel, the author of France's first cookbook, Le Viandier, would have been proud of the partridge we were served on these last days of November in the eponymous restaurant. This address on one of the beautiful, wise streets in the capital's 8th arrondissement remains, with its magnificent woodwork, spaced-out tables and wine list, one of the capital's benchmarks for posh business lunches or discreet dinners. Over the years, and with the passing of successive chefs, the magic of the place has faded somewhat, with the plate struggling to find a well-established personality. A few scallops with slices of white truffle (€160), this very successful partridge (€130) and crêpes Suzette (€38) of a very respectable standard push the bill towards €330, even before ordering one of the magnificent bottles from the cellar. The regulars feel right at home, the service pampers them with a few signs of recognition, and there's nothing to fault in this achievement worthy of the place.
