Chef's Restaurant L'Aigle d'Or is nestled in the heart of the charming village of Azay-le-Rideau, a stone's throw from the château and the banks of the Indre. An address where everything seems to be in place for Eleanor Thomas and Simon Desiles, who welcome their guests with smiles and kindness. The experience is a rich one, punctuated by a host of well-executed extras that testify to the generosity of the place. Starters and main courses reveal the chef's technical mastery and his concern to offer coherent, well-balanced plates (roasted scallops, beet, citrus, watercress pollack, parsnips, horseradish...), with a consensual approach. Desserts, meanwhile, are often a notch above the rest, like the clementine made with ice cream, cream and marmalade, accompanied by homemade petit-beurre and chocolate ganache; the whole thing is simply addictive. The wine list is well-stocked, with some fine references. There's no choice by the glass, but if you let Eleanor guide you, you'll easily find something to enhance your experience.
