At the foot of the cathedral, near the Saint-Laurent portal with its flamboyant Gothic tracery, this restaurant boasts a rare asset: a nearly regal setting, complemented by a terrace offering a direct view of the monument. Inside, an abundance of bottles, a wine bistro vibe, and a crowd of regulars create a simple, lively atmosphere that’s anything but stuffy. The menu, short and exclusively Italian, evokes a chic trattoria. The tagliolini with prawns, bisque sauce, and persillade combine fresh, perfectly cooked shellfish with a rich pasta dish where home-style Italian cooking meets a French twist on bisque. The breaded veal sweetbreads served over Sardinian fregola prepared risotto-style are even more enticing thanks to the contrast between crispy and tender textures. The semi-melted chocolate, accompanied by vanilla custard served from a siphon, remains a simple yet indulgent dessert. The hospitality adds to the restaurant’s charm. The maître d’, who is also a sommelier, commands the room with natural authority and describes Italian wines with confident precision. The wine cellar, curated with a personal touch, features renowned Italian labels and reflects a distinct preference for vibrant wines and producers with character.
