Gourmet Restaurant In the midst of the flashy signs of the Escaldes, this traditional rampart really stands out. A simple, old-fashioned house, with white tablecloths, service and a pre-Franco atmosphere, timeless with a simple, forgotten refinement. Extensive menu and suggestions of the moment, tomato and langoustine salad, lamb chops, like a nostalgic recitation. Regulars don't need any superfluous directions (nothing is displayed outside, apart from the name "Angel Belmonte"), but they are at home. As you'd hope, as you'd sense, everything is good, cooked with care and attention to detail, cooking, choice of produce, respect. The Andalusian-style fried calamari, the tallarins (like pappardelle) prawns and porcini mushrooms taste really good in their generosity, as does the variation on bacalla (cod) which we enjoyed with a lovely ratatouille (hesitating strongly with the other specialty, with grilled garlic and spinach à la catalane), before the faithful baba au rhum. It's also one of the city's finest wine cellars, offering an introduction to all the regions of Spain (right up to Vega Sicilia, of course), with plenty of choice and good advice from the waiter sommelier.
