Jean-Georges KLEIN

Jean-Georges KLEIN

Presentation

At the age of 70, Jean-Georges Klein is obviously as attached as ever to the Bitche region where he was born and raised, and where, together with his sister Cathy, he took over the family business to raise it to the top of the gastronomic hierarchy.

The family restaurant is located in Untermuhlthal, a small hamlet nestled in a verdant valley, just a few kilometers from the town of Baerenthal. Mom Lilly took over the small restaurant opened by her mother Rose Donnenwirth in 1948. What was then a simple, unpretentious hunting lodge gradually developed into a world-renowned address.

However, when Jean-Georges returned to the family home in 1971, he worked in the dining room, soon joined by his sister Cathy, and it was not until much later, in 1989, that he joined his mother at the piano before quickly replacing her, after a year of cooking four-handed, at the helm of l'Arnsbourg.

He would remain there until 2015, when he left for the Villa René Lalique, which had just opened a few kilometers away. Still at the helm (with his wife Nicole, who manages the hotel), of Silvia Denz's magnificent property, supported by excellent chefs (Jérôme Schilling and now Paul Stradner), Jean-Georges Klein is the ideal guide for this extraordinary house, a brilliant glass house that is anything but a crystal trap.
