Why October Is the Best Time to Stay at This Hotel in Megève

A quieter resort, trails ablaze with fall colors, and a free third night through October 18: the off-season is the perfect time to discover Megève’s oldest hotel.

In October, Megève returns to being a village. The summer crowds have left, the winter crowds haven’t arrived yet, and the trails are taking on their fall colors. This is also when the Grand Hôtel Soleil d’Or becomes more affordable: until it closes on October 18, it’s offering a third night free with any two-night stay.

The Resort’s First Hotel

Opened in 1901, the Soleil d’Or is Megève’s very first hotel. It occupies a prime location at the intersection of the downtown pedestrian streets. Completely renovated in 2019, this five-star hotel has retained traces of its spa heritage. It now features 29 rooms and suites, spread across the main building and three private chalets.

Cheese, chocolate, and mountain views

At mealtime, La Fromagerie showcases Savoyard regional specialties and features a sunny terrace. La Chocolaterie, a nod to the village’s culinary history, serves pastries, waffles, and crêpes for afternoon tea. On the top floor, the rooftop bar overlooks the resort’s rooftops and the Alpine massif. After a day of hiking, the spa takes over with its heated indoor pool, sauna, steam room, and jacuzzi, as well as treatments available by reservation.

The offer is valid for arrivals on Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, for a three-night stay including one free night. It runs until the hotel’s seasonal closure on October 18, meaning the last possible checkout is Friday, October 16.
