La Butte, weaving the future

La Butte, weaving the future

Stéphane Bréhier | 2/19/25, 8:00 AM

They have succeeded in the difficult challenge of bringing a 70-year-old house, which has remained in the family, back to life and into the present. In the midst of the Breton countryside, Solène and Nicolas Conraux have even managed to carve La Butte - a bistro, gourmet restaurant, grocery store, hotel and bakery - into a future that is as virtuous as it is sustainable. Let's sleep at the chef's.

Finistère is home to some of the finest enclosures and calvaries in Brittany. As you drive from Morlaix to Saint-Thégonnec, Guimiliau, Lampaul-Guimiliau, La Roche-Maurice, then Saint-Pol-de-Léon, you'll come across a whole host of names.some will prefer the quaint architectural charms of Carantec or Plougasnou... Others, a little weary of the cauliflower and artichoke fields, will stop off at Plouider. With the Keremma dunes and Goulven Bay in their sights. With, on the side of this sometimes windy road, a traditional white house of no apparent interest. You have to keep your eyes open. For this building - Jeanne-Yvonne Becam's home, designed in 1961 - conceals others that have sprung up over the years. Alongside the first, built in 1968, two buildings were added by her son Hervé (in 1972 and 1993), then two more (in 2012 and 2015) by her granddaughter, Solène, and her husband, Nicolas Conraux.

In the heart of the town, the historic Hôtel Les Aiglons symbolizes this "high mountain" spirit.
