It's another step in the rise of the Saudi culinary scene. On June 2, 2026, Gault&Millau officially launched its first edition dedicated to Saudi Arabia at a gala event held at the Radisson Minhal in Riyadh. A symbolic event that puts the Kingdom on the world gastronomic map.

In front of an audience of chefs, restaurateurs, journalists, influencers and institutional representatives, the famous yellow guide unveiled a selection of almost 250 restaurants spread between Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, Abha and Dammam. A gourmet cartography designed to reflect a country in the throes of transformation, where cuisine is becoming both a cultural showcase and a ground for innovation.

A growing gastronomic scene

Long discreet on the international scene, Saudi gastronomy is now accelerating its transformation."The launch of Gault&Millau Saudi Arabia represents an important step in our international development, and reflects the remarkable momentum of the Kingdom's culinary scene," says Chairman and CEO Patrick Hayoun. With this first edition, Gault&Millau intends to support this momentum and highlight the diversity of influences shaping the local culinary landscape. "Gault&Millau's mission has always been to discover, support and promote culinary excellence, and Saudi Arabia today offers an exceptional landscape of creativity, ambition and authenticity," adds Patrick Hayoun.

From the great contemporary restaurants to the more confidential addresses, the guide highlights both the international signatures established in the Kingdom and the local players who are revisiting Saudi traditions. The aim is to reveal talent, encourage excellence and set new standards for the hospitality industry.

Women at the forefront

One of the highlights of the evening was the presentation of special trophies to a number of industry figures. In particular, three distinctions were awarded to women, illustrating their growing role in the evolution of Saudi gastronomy.

Sara Katanani received the " General Manager of the Year " award, while Nihal Felemban was crowned " Young Talent of the Year ". Mayada Badr, Managing Director of the Saudi Culinary Arts Commission, received an " Inspiring Leadership Award " for her commitment to the development of the culinary sector in the Kingdom.

The title of "Chef of the Year" went to Wed Saleh, rewarded for his contemporary vision of Saudi cuisine. On the pastry side, Hachem Taleb was crowned "Pastry Chef of the Year" for the finesse and precision of his creations.

A tool for cultural influence

In addition to the paper guide, Gault&Millau Saudi Arabia will be built around a digital platform and an annual gala, destined to become a major event in the sector. This strategy is about more than just the restaurant business: it's also about supporting Saudi Arabia's cultural and tourism ambitions as part of its economic transformation.

By establishing a presence in the Kingdom, Gault&Millau is also confirming the growing interest of major gastronomic institutions in this new culinary destination in the Middle East. A recognition that could further accelerate the international visibility of Saudi chefs and restaurateurs.
