These Corsican wines deserve a place in every cellar
Eight Corsican reds that prove the island has never been so exciting: vibrant sciaccarellu, deep niellucciu, precise ageing and spicy finishes. Our favorite selection.
The nose is still discreet and needs to be aired. Delicate aromas of cherry, blackberry tart, thyme and sage. The amphora ageing gives an impression of roots, of notes anchored in the earth. On the palate, the texture is pure and silky, with powerful yet fine-grained, velvety tannins. Expressive and long, blueberry, blackcurrant, spice and peony form a balanced whole. Intense freshness on the finish leaves us with an electric palate.
A 100% sciacarellu that pinots. Intense nose of cherry, redcurrant, flowers with licorice, pepper and a hint of smoke. On the palate, there's a certain power, but it's all finesse. The tannins are just right, without imposing themselves. Freshness remains the order of the day, with a lovely finish of dried rose. This wine makes you want to spend long evenings talking about it, only to come back to it again and again.
A purplish color introduces a wine still in its youth but already bewitching. It takes us on a textured, silky journey. Tension and tannins are still very much in evidence, but a concentrated aromatic bouquet of raspberry, rose and violet, enhanced by a touch of smokiness, is already apparent. The long, elegant finish is very promising.

Domaine Peretti della Rocca - Rouge Colette 2021
A few years of age reveal beautiful aromas of old leather, tobacco, goji berry and pepper. The nose seems wintry, but the palate is spring-like. Freshness is the order of the day, with an explosion of fresh fruit (blackberry, blueberry) and present but supple tannins. The wine is floral, spicy and airy. A great pleasure.
A wine full of greed and concentration, with aromas of strawberry, blackberry and blueberry. Ground black pepper and leather add complexity. On the palate, the wine is still a little young, and we recommend waiting another year or decanting. This will reveal its silkiness and spiciness. The pleasant cherry finish makes you want to go back for more. Serve with a piece of meat in pepper sauce or some mushrooms next autumn.
Created just over 25 years ago by Daniel Canarelli, Domaine Costa Rossa currently offers 5 wines produced on their 10 ha of vines. This cuvée, made exclusively from Sciaccarellu, is a fine expression of the grape variety. It's still young, with well-presented tannins, but it'll only need time to refine to continue expressing juicy, gourmet aromas of cherry, strawberry and black fruit. The slightly spicy finish reminds us of its Corsican origins.
A blend of niellucciu, carccaghjolu neru, sciaccarellu and syrah, this wine reveals aromas of wild strawberry, wild blackberry and an impression of hazelnut and garrigue, intense but well-infused and well-patinated. A wine with a long, spicy finish that carries us away.
Niellucciu and sciaccarellu come together in this cuvée, with a hint of syrah. The result is a wine with aromas of blood orange, tart cherry, raspberry, black pepper and graphite. On the palate, it's spicy with character and powerful tannins. The spice on the finish continues to add generosity. A wine that can still be cellared.
