Advent calendars: our 3 recommendations
The Advent calendar: the must-have end-of-year treat.
December 1st is just around the corner, and for those of you who have yet to choose your calendar, Gault&Millau has a few recommendations. This year, 3 calendars have caught our eye:
Le Chocolat Alain Ducasse - Le top chocolat
A journey to the heart of the jungle, where behind each square lie cocoa delights. Among these are strong-tasting bars in an original style, old-fashioned praliné, ganaches and bonbons de chocolats in the same vein, with a highly successful play on textures and tastes. Other tasty surprises lurk in this jungle, but the pleasure of discovery would be spoiled by saying no more. Easy, clean opening of the compartments; the only small fault is that the tablets are not easy to extract from their compartments.
Price: €45
Where to buy: at La Manufacture (40 rue de la Roquette 75011 Paris) or online here.
Jean-Paul Hévin - Chocolate and ecological awareness
Jean-Paul Hévin offers gourmets an exceptional showcase for its chocolates. This calendar, in ice-blue and gold tones, plunges us into a wintry universe where each box highlights an endangered species of French fauna. A mammal, a fish, a bird - just a small sample of the diversity of our fauna - is the guardian of a Jean-Paul Hévin creation. A big plus: there are not only chocolate sweets, but also melting caramels and delicious nougats. Clean box opening.
Price: €39
Where to buy: in boutiques (7 in Paris) or online here.
Michel Cluizel - A thousand and one bursts of chocolate
With its red, gold and white tones, this calendar will blend in with any traditional Christmas decor. Behind each number is an original cocoa creation by Michel Cluizel. Their variety, including a fine selection of fruity sweets, makes them even more pleasant to open throughout December. The chocolates are delicious and a fine demonstration of the expertise of Michel Cluizel, one of the few chocolatiers to still work the cocoa beans himself for his creations. Easy to open.

Where to buy: at La Petite Manufacture (2 rue des Rosiers 75004 Paris), in Comptoirs throughout France or online here.
