Facing the ocean and housed in a sumptuous Belle Époque building, this historic hotel is one of Biarritz's must-sees. Now a member of the Experimental Group, it has undergone a facelift and is set to reopen on July 7. Decorator Dorothée Meilichzon was inspired, rethinking the 72 rooms and suites with raw materials (rope, Japanese straw), varnished wood furniture and aquatically patterned carpets, all offering sumptuous views over the Bay of Biarritz. On the first floor, the bar has also been revamped, reinventing the score of a 1920s cocktail piano bar with a huge counter facing more intimate spaces decorated with large sofas and lit by beautiful paper lamps by Ingo Maurer. The restaurant and its vast terrace are now the stronghold of chef Grégory Marchand, whose signature cuisine revisits the great local classics. And when it comes to activities, guests are spoilt for choice, from surfing spots to the lighthouse golf course just opposite the hotel.
