Gault&Millau's review 2025

Formerly a 19th-century salt granary, now a hotel since the 1950s, Le Maxime perpetuates the Burgundian art of living on the banks of the Yonne. This charming 4-star hotel, awarded the Clef Verte label in 2022, is anchored in the heart of the historic Marine district, just a stone's throw from Saint-Etienne cathedral and Saint-Germain abbey. There are 26 comfortable rooms on two floors, some with river views, others with views over the rooftops of Auxerre. The buffet breakfast features fresh produce and homemade pastries. Later in the evening, room service is provided in partnership with local caterers. The address also offers two lounges for private or business events, as well as secure parking.
