Gault&Millau's review 2026

Once owned by the Rocca Serra family and then abandoned, this vast 19th-century mansion on the island's southernmost tip has been brought back to life by Julie and Philippe Farinelli. Over the course of the harvest and a three-year renovation project, this 52-hectare estate was transformed into a confidential 16-key hotel, nestled in a mountain cirque at the foot of the majestic Cagna massif, between AOC Sartène vineyards, oak forests and fragrant maquis. And the land tells a story: that of a winegrowing dream shattered by war, then resurrected in 1998 by Philippe Farinelli, a passionate oenologist who scrupulously replanted the vines. You can sleep in the hamlet, which houses 16 rooms and suites, or in one of the 3 rustically elegant granite sheepfolds, designed as family homes, with old terracotta floor tiles, weathered wood, 19th-century frescoes and views over the vineyards or the Cagna peaks. In the golden hour, linger over a glass of Minustellu (a Corsican grape variety rescued from oblivion), before dining in the vineyards or at the Sopravigna restaurant, where you can savour generous, 100% local cuisine: artisanal charcuterie, vegetables from the kitchen garden, homemade olive oil and natural wines aged in terracotta jars. Hiking to Homme de Cagne, cruising to Campomoro and bathing on the wild beaches of Roccapina complete your stay in Corse-du-Sud.
