Gault&Millau's review 2025

Overlooking Cabourg’s main beach, it is one of the most famous destinations on the Normandy coast. Between 1907 and 1914, the hotel was one of Marcel Proust’s favorite vacation spots, where he drew much of his inspiration for *In Search of Lost Time*. Restored and now operating under the MGallery brand, the Grand Hôtel has retained its Belle Époque atmosphere and understated elegance, which permeates its 71 rooms and suites (including the legendary “Room 414—Marcel Proust”). On the ground floor, the restaurant Le Balbec is a must-visit during any stay in Cabourg, where food lovers order the “Grand Hôtel-style sole,” a dish dear to the author’s heart. Also worth noting: the charm of the spa by KOS Paris, as well as the atmosphere of the bars La Belle Époque and La Promenade, overlooking the sea.
