The first French hotel to earn the “palace” designation in 2011… Housed in an 18th-century mansion and opened in 1925—a property that is therefore celebrating its centennial this year—the hotel pays tribute to Frédéric Augustus Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol, a British globetrotter with a passion for luxury. Now owned by the Oetker Group, the Bristol exudes timeless luxury, adorned with tapestries, crystal chandeliers, and period furniture—yet this does not detract from its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Travelers and Parisians gather for breakfast or tea at Café Antonia; starting at 6 p.m., for a drink at the bar with its leopard-print banquettes; for lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants led by Executive Chef Arnaud Faye, a Meilleur Ouvrier de France. Spread across the historic building, the former convent, and the Matignon wing, the 190 rooms and suites (including 106 suites) all offer this same exceptional luxury, not to mention the “Signature” suites, such as the one immortalized in Woody Allen’s film “Midnight in Paris.” A rare gem that also houses the La Mer Spa, featuring eight treatment rooms opening onto an interior garden and the famous teak pool on the 6th floor, overlooking the rooftops of Paris.
