Exceptional Hotel On the other side of the Rhône and a 5-minute drive from Avignon, this former 14th-century priory, a Relais & Châteaux member, has been transformed into a luxurious refuge by Jean-André and Geneviève Charial, owners of Domaine de Baumanière, in Les Baux-de-Provence. The 26 rooms and 13 suites in the 26 rooms and 13 suites in the old estate building or atrium, set in a lushly planted parish garden with century-old plane and lime trees, are a skilful blend of stone walls, antique furniture and natural materials, just a stone's throw from the swimming pool and sumptuous cloister. Guests also come here to savor the precise, gourmet cuisine of chef Christophe Chiavola, served in the beautiful dining room warmed by a huge fireplace or, as soon as the weather warms up, on the flower-filled terrace.
