Gault&Millau's review 2026

There are places that seem cut out to break with time, and Mas de Peint belongs to this rare category. You arrive here after crossing the blond lands of the Camargue, and suddenly the house stands out, massive and reassuring, as if it had always been there. This is normal: built in 1602, the former farmhouse has kept its skeleton and its soul, even though Jacques and Lucille Bon, then their son Frédéric and his wife Clémence, have transformed it into a 5-star hotel without betraying its substance. A stay here is like an immersion. Inside, a vaulted lounge invites informal exchanges, the rooms are luxurious without eye-catching fuss, and outside stretches a 550-hectare estate where Camargue horses and bulls graze. You could confine yourself to contemplation, but here everything is geared to experience: get on a horse to ride along the marshes, take a 4x4 with a nature guide, share a ferrade or a horse show, dine on the estate's produce. Camargue rice, olive oil, PDO meat: chef Juan Ipuz's table celebrates a land he knows intimately. Away from the farm, the Mas boasts a number of spaces worthy of the Camargue: an 18th-century sheepfold with monumental beams, a private arena in the heart of the manade, and a camp lodge designed like a miniature Africa under the Provencal sky.
