Exceptional Hotel Inaugurated just over a year ago and already a Relais & Châteaux accredited hotel, this haven of luxury and history is sure to please. The credit goes first and foremost to this exceptional Renaissance residence, where Louise de La Vallière, Louis XIV's favorite, spent her childhood before moving to Versailles. Artfully restored by its owner, Mira Grebenstein, the property has preserved its heritage intact: medieval gate surmounted by machicolations, high 16th-century square tower and buildings now housing 20 rooms and suites. Designed by star decorator Jacques Garcia, all boast nobility and refinement, with Hungarian parquet floors and antique furniture, warmed by red velvets and wild silks. This elegance extends to the gourmet restaurant L'Amphitryon (where waiters officiate in period dress!) and the spa "La Rosée" (Louise de La Vallière's nickname), which offers a range of treatments by Maison Valmont and Biologique Recherche, next to the year-round heated swimming pool. A rare place to savour the best of the French Grand Siècle, not far from Amboise and Clos Lucé.
