Gault&Millau's review 2025

The former Hôtel d'Angleterre was brought back to life in 2010 by Céline and Sébastien Meslin, who bought this legendary address. They devoted five years to restoring the hotel, with the aim of creating a unique, luxurious and welcoming venue. The challenge was met, as the hotel (the first 5-star in Brittany) is now one of the city's leading institutions, and a member of the MGallery by Sofitel collection. Right from the entrance, the tone is set with a lobby featuring a library filled with antique books, small lounges warmed by a fireplace, a designer bar and a patio with skylights and futuristic fountains. The spirit is the same in the 56 rooms and suites, each with its own unique decor, combining traditional oak parquet flooring, Tom Dixon lamps and contemporary bathrooms. The Nuxe spa features a sauna, hammam, treatment rooms and a sensory pool with whirlpools, not to mention a rejuvenation room. Perfectly regenerated, all that's left to do is discover the delights of La Table de Balthazar, which has become one of the most popular restaurants in Rennes, led by Breton chef Benjamin Jourdren.
