Maison Ferraton was founded in 1946 by Jean Orëns Ferraton, and has been handed down from generation to generation. It owns vineyards in the Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Saint Joseph appellations. She also buys grapes and handles vinification and ageing in numerous Rhône valley appellations, including côte-rôtie, condrieu, cornas, châteauneuf-du-pape, côtes-du-rhône, côtes-du-rhône-villages plan-de-dieu and tavel. In 1998, on the advice of family friend Michel Chapoutier, Ferraton Père & Fils converted to biodynamic viticulture.
