Winery presentation by Gault&Millau

In the heart of Béarn, a few kilometers from Pau, Domaine Cauhapé has built its reputation on sweet Jurançon wines. A little over 15 years ago, Henri Ramonteu shifted his focus to dry whites, noting that the sweetness of sweet Jurançon wines was sometimes met with reluctance. Without abandoning them, he expanded his lineup by producing dry wines that have helped bring lesser-known grape varieties—such as Petit Manseng and Gros Manseng, staples of the appellation—back into the spotlight. Thus, Camaralet, Lauzet, and Courbu entered the scene, blended with Petit or Gros Manseng. At the same time, the estate produces a few cuvées classified as “Vin de France,” including a surprising rosé (Tannat and Cabernet Sauvignon) and sparkling wines made from Camaralet and Lauzet with excellent aging potential.
