Gourmet Restaurant Ducasse at Versailles! The idea is truly enticing. The chateau, the view, the splendor - it's the stuff of dreams. So, even if the carriage turns back into a pumpkin, you're sure to feel like a prince for a night. In this uncluttered setting, with no tablecloths but silverware, the atmosphere is friendly and touristy. It's Versailles for the destination, more in the brasserie register, with service that's not immensely involved, but very professional, and a relatively simple cuisine that takes you somewhat away from the king's court: organic soft-boiled egg with green beans and almonds, farmhouse poultry supreme with fennel fondant that could be called "demi-suprême", well-made vanilla caramel millefeuille. Classic cellar with an "exceptional wines" section.
