Remarkable Restaurant Just 300m from the entrance to the pedestrian zone on the montée de Rochebrune, the Hôtel le Coin du Feu is certainly one of the last remaining testimonies to Megève-vintage. Thanks to the work of owner Nicolas Grivet (a Marseillais whose heart is here in the mountains), every detail is a tribute to that blessed period of the 60s, when artists rubbed shoulders with the locals with benevolence. In the vaulted stone cellars, the Table du Saint-Nicolas cultivates a resolutely Alpine vision, but with the beautiful produce of the ocean as its horizon. Norman chef Marvin Lance, barely thirty, has already worked his way up through the ranks of some fine brigades. Now he's ready to cook beautiful dishes and perfectly rectified sauces. Inventive and ingenious, this jack-of-all-trades knows how to cut up a carcass just as well as bake his own bread, and doesn't shy away from celebrating some very daring taste pairings, such as a yellow wine-lacquered veal confit with pearly langoustine, or this monkfish tail accompanied by a matelote sauce refreshed with herbs. And since we're in the holy grail here, the Saint-Nicolas table is often the scene of small miracles, such as the wine selection, 50% of which is priced at less than €50, just like this menu, which allows you to choose and taste whatever you like, avoiding the imposed menus. The result is immediate: the locals love the place: the instructors frequent the seasonal residents, and the Megévans find themselves in a calm that has been forgotten since the megawatts of sound systems were installed in most places. A third toque in the hope that the chef will continue to celebrate mass here while resisting the call of the open sea.
