If you want to stay in the heart of the village and get away from the chichi offerings around you, there's nothing like a dive - or an ascent, if you have to climb upstairs when the first floor is already full - into this warm and welcoming house on the village square. Everything is straightforward, like the good bread, with a wide range of dishes on offer, from burgers and salads to platters and salmon tataki, while retaining a hint of bistro identity, illustrated by the local atmosphere, the friendly female service and the owner's willingness to help out, reassure regulars and provide information to travellers. If you're wise enough to stick to local traditions, there's plenty to enjoy here, including fries with crottin sauce, snails as an idea of the day, oeufs meurette, andouillette de Jargeau and tête de veau. We finish with profiterole or mousse coulis passion, and the €25.90 menu is a good option. A varied cellar, with a wide range of Sancerre and local craft beers.
