Gault&Millau's review 2026

In an age when everything passes quickly - fashion, music, a table in sight - it's reassuring to see that there are still places that seem immutable, impervious to time. La Brouette de Grand-mère has been delighting diners for 49 years, and Clara Giuliano and Nicolas Biot, who have been at the helm for 17 years, have understood that the recipe for happiness is to remain faithful. Loyal to the customers who, year after year, fill the bric-a-brac bistro perched in a quiet, almost village-like setting in Le Suquet. The room, unpretentious but full of character, lines its walls covered with old posters, witnesses of another era, between bouchon lyonnais and bistrot canaille. You settle in as if you were entering someone's home, with the reassuring impression of déjà-vu, where the welcome never varies, frank, direct and warm. In the kitchen as in the dining room, the tempo is set without tension. It's fast, it's smiling, it follows the rhythm of the table without ever forcing it. There's no superfluous staging here, just a quiet, almost artisanal efficiency in the service of the essential: good food and good entertaining. As for the à la carte menu, it plays to the tune of well-executed classics. Generous terrines, grandma's dishes, onion soup, marrow bones, roast quail, entrecôte steak with pepper sauce, chocolate mousse, floating island... dishes that don't seek to reinvent anything, but to bring back precise memories, those of simple, sincere meals. The wine cellar follows the same logic: clear, coherent and accessible, with an attractive presence by the glass and contained prices, allowing you to pick and choose as you please without ever complicating the choice. You'll leave the restaurant with a rare feeling of having spent a real moment at the table, stable and without artifice. An address that doesn't run after its time, and that's precisely its strength. A solid evening tasting menu, including wine, at €60.
