It’s great to see brasseries making a comeback: an extensive menu free of frills and surprises, “butter-and-cream” dishes displayed in the window—you know what you’re getting, and you don’t complain. There’s definitely plenty to enjoy here, from the egg with mayonnaise, gravlax salmon, and fried calamari, to the cod aioli, rosemary lamb shanks, and a proper pepper steak, between crème caramel and pavlova, and of course the weekly specials (the shepherd’s pie is on Thursdays!). And, a chef’s hat—one that really works!
