Gourmet Restaurant The Grand Hôtel de Valenciennes, a historic landmark facing the town's railway station, offers a monthly menu based on brasserie classics such as beef tartar, lamb shoulder parmentier and salmon escalope, as well as daily specials to vary the pleasures. Don't leave without trying the Carpeaux de Valenciennes, a local vanilla-flavored dessert enriched with pieces of marron glacé (glazed chestnuts), in a package that comes as no great surprise, but is practical and symbolic for many locals.
